In
February 1991 we were approached by a representative of the Hankyu Department
Store in Osaka, Japan regarding a proposed exhibition of 18th, 19th and
20th century British Naive and Primitive Art. After six months of research
it was decided that the exhibition would consist of the major part of the
Andreas Kalman Collection of 18th and 19th century primitive art held at
the Museum of English Naive Art in Bath, together with 31 paintings by Helen
Bradley to represent the 20th century. The exhibition was housed in a specially
built area surrounding a central English rose garden complete with lawn.
The exhibition was one of the most successful in the 22 years they have
been staging a yearly British Fair, with over 25,000 visitors during the
six-day opening. |
